So I just got back to Sydney from a week in Los Angeles after winning one of the categories in Adobe's student design award, the ADOBE DESIGN ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. It was a huge experience. I did not win the Grand Prize in my segment, but it doesn't matter as I got to network with some of the greater creatives within my field.
During the Grand Prize ceremony dinner, I sat next to legendary director and animator Micheal Patterson. Him and his wife, Candace Reckinger, were the brains behind the award winning "Take On Me"-music video back in the 80s. I had a rather long chat with Micheal, and I told him I had a goal of one day working with Elastic and creative director Patrick Clair, the studio and director behind the famous True Detective title sequences just to mention some of their sexy work. Patrick's work is a huge inspiration to me, and my MH370 piece is pretty much a tribute to him. Micheal basically responded with "Well hey, you're in LA right now. Why don't you get a cab over there and introduce yourself?".
Bottom line, I got to speak to Patrick Clair, and if I didn't have to leave the country, I would be interning there right now.
Other than that, I got to enjoy everything Adobe Max had to offer. A huge creative conference with 7000 people attending, hundreds of sessions to attend, some good, some bad, and I even got to chat with Beeple, also called Mike Winkelmann, known for his sweet ass work and an unbelievable 8-year streak of everyday renders.
